Novak Djokovic posts images as he makes long-awaited return to America

Novak Djokovic back in America

Novak Djokovic is back in America for the first time since his defeat in the 2021 US Open final.

The former world No 1 has posted images on his social media channels of his arrival in Cincinnati, as he prepares to make a return to the US hard courts.

Djokovic has been denied entry into America over the last year after he confirmed he had not taken a Covid-19 vaccine.

America kept their vaccine mandate in place for visitors longer than most nations around the world, with those restrictions seeing Djokovic miss out on a chance to play in last year’s US Open and a host of Masters series events.

After an agonising wait, the Serbian is back on American soil, as he prepares to try and win his first US Open title since 2018.

He has spent time practicing on hard courts in the tennis resort owned by former Serbian Janko Tipsaravic in Montenegro.

Now he has had his first practice session in Cincinnati, with fans cheering him on as he prepared to play his first event since losing the US Open final against Carlos Alcaraz last month.

Djokovic finds himself in a challenging quarter of the draw as he could be in line to play the in-form Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in his first match back on American hard courts.

Davidovich Fokina has caught the eye in Toronto by making it through to the semi-finals and he is knocking on the door of a place in the top 20 of the ATP rankings for the first time in his career.

Djokovic may then face Alex De Munaur in the third round, who is also showing impressive hard court form in Toronto by making it through to his first Masters 1000 semi-finals.

After that, the 23-time Grand Slam champion could face Gael Monfils, who has been a star of the Toronto tournament and American Taylor Fritz may also lie in wait.
