Novak Djokovic’s son Stefan writes adorable letter about his ‘hero’ father – ‘He inspired me’
Stefan Djokovic penned a beautiful tribute to his father, tennis great Novak Djokovic, as part of a school essay recently.
World No 1 Djokovic has made no secret of the fact that he hopes Stefan follows in his footsteps by becoming a professional tennis player and he revealed last year that the youngster was “fully immersed into tennis” and always watching and analysing the sport at every opportunity.
The tennis icon has clearly rubbed off on his son as the eight-year-old was full of praise for Novak when he had to write a school essay about “My Hero”.
The youngster even referenced Djokovic’s fellow greats Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the piece.
Federer and Nadal had established the Big Two by the time Djokovic won his first Grand Slam at the 2008 Australian Open. However, it wasn’t until three years later that the Serbian took his game up several notches as he has won an incredible 21 majors from 2011 until January this year.
He is now the joint Grand Slam record holder with Nadal following his success at this year’s Australian Open with Federer on 20 majors.
Djokovic’s ability to not only break Nadal and Federer’s stranglehold on the Grand Slams, but also force a Big Three have certainly made an impression on Stefan.
The youngster wrote: “In the old days, when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were still either the first in the world or the second, my dad named Novak Djokovic appeared.
“And that’s how my last name was created.
“He was born on 22/05/1987 May. Aaaa, I forgot something, I’m Stefan Djokovic, his son. He inspired me to be persistent and play tennis well! ❤️”
Stefan himself has already tasted success on the tennis courts as in May last year the Djokovic family celebrated a double as Novak won the Italian Open while Stefan won his maiden title.
Meanwhile, during this year’s Australian Open, Djokovic opened up about his dream to play doubles with his son on the ATP Tour in future.
“He loves tennis, he wants to watch every single match. Whenever I am at home there is no tennis break for me because I play with every day. It is the most beautiful thing that I could ever experience in my life, being a father of wonderful two little angles,” he said.
“Who knows maybe one day Stefan and I [can] come back here playing doubles with you guys. I still have plenty of time left ahead of me.”
