Ranking points being defended by Sabalenka, Gauff, Pegula, Keys, Andreeva at Berlin Tennis Open

The Berlin Tennis Open is officially underway, with several of the WTA Tour’s biggest names in action at the WTA 500 event.
Here, we look at what ranking points the top eight seeds have to defend at the tournament.
1) Aryna Sabalenka – 108
World No 1 Sabalenka has competed at the Berlin Tennis Open every year since the tournament returned to the WTA calendar in 2021, and will be targeting her first-ever grass court title at the event.
The top seed retired injured at the quarter-final stage 12 months ago, and has 108 ranking points to defend as a result.
2) Coco Gauff – 195
Fresh off winning her second Grand Slam singles title at Roland Garros, world No 2 Gauff is another targeting a maiden title on the grass in Berlin.
The second seed this year, the 21-year-old was the top seed a year ago and made it all the way to the semi-final, with 195 points to defend in 2025.
3) Jessica Pegula – 500
It was Pegula who beat Gauff in the last four twelve months ago, ultimately going on to lift the title after a thrilling three-set victory versus surprise finalist Anna Kalinskaya.
The third seed in Berlin this year, the world No 3 has 500 points to defend in Berlin, though she is guaranteed to stay as the third-ranked player regardless of her result.
4) Jasmine Paolini – 0
The fourth seed in Berlin, but back down to world No 5 in the WTA Rankings, Paolini has the chance to return to the top four ahead of the Wimbledon seedings next week.
The Italian has no points to defend after not playing the event a year ago and, like all top four seeds, has a bye through to the second round, where she will face lucky loser Ons Jabeur.
5) Zheng Qinwen – 60
After reaching the first grass-court semi-final of her career at Queen’s last week, world No 4 Qinwen will look to continue growing in experience on the surface in Berlin.
The fifth seed has 60 points to defend after reaching the second round a year ago, though faces a tricky opening-round match against former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
6) Mirra Andreeva – 0
Competing in Berlin for the first time, sixth seed Andreeva was up against Magdalena Frech in the opening round.
Because she had not played the event previously, the Russian had zero ranking points to defend at the tournament – though was beaten in round one by her Polish opponent.

7) Madison Keys – 0
The winner of three WTA titles on grass and twice a Wimbledon quarter-finalist, Keys will be the seventh seed in Berlin this week and a significant threat for the title.
Australian Open champion Keys reached the last four of Queen’s this past weekend but has zero points to defend in Berlin, having not played the event in 2024.
8) Paula Badosa – 0
The eighth seed in Berlin, world No 10 Badosa’s campaign begins on Monday against home favourite Eva Lys.
Badosa did not play the tournament last season, meaning she is another with zero ranking points to defend.
Selected others
Elena Rybakina: The Kazakh, who faces Qinwen in a brutal opening-round clash, has 108 points to defend after retiring injured in the 2024 quarter-final.
Anna Kalinskaya: Last year’s surprise finalist Kalinskaya had 325 ranking points to defend, though her qualifying loss means she is set for a significant drop down the WTA Rankings.
