Reactions to Indian Wells Masters news: From Jamie Murray’s fears for the Tour to an Indian ‘Unwells’ pun

The 2020 Indian Wells Masters, or BNP Paribas Open if you like, “will not take place at this time” due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The main draw matches were due to start on Wednesday, but there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the region and California health officials are taking no risks as they have declared a public health emergency for the Coachella Valley.
Of course, players, coaches, journalists and fans took to social media to share their thoughts.
First things first, Diego Schwartzman is peeved as he found out through social media.
Estaría bueno que @atptour comunique un poco mejor a los jugadores de una suspensión de semejante torneo cuando estamos todos acá… enterarse por redes sociales o whats app es bastante flojo.

Kirsten Flipkens also unimpressed.
And players had to find out… through twitter….

And more from Flipkens.
@WTA isnt the least you can do is organizing an emergency meeting with the players????
— Kirsten Flipkens (@FlipperKF) March 9, 2020
Rafael Nadal says they are still deciding what’s next.
You probably all heard the news. Indian Wells cancelled. We are here and still deciding what’s next. So sad for all that is happening around the world with this situation. Hopefully soon solutions from the authorities. Stay all well and safe.

Jamie Murray concerned about the rest of the Tour.
Doesn’t bode well for the tour if IW cancelled for 1 confirmed case in Coachella Valley. Broward county (Miami Open home) has more confirmed cases. Monte Carlo borders northern Italy currently in lockdown. Rome Masters? French Open? Wimbledon?!!!

Denis Shapovalov with a few words.
I’m shook 😶

Sacha Bajin wants to know if they should’ve just held the tournament without any spectators.
Just want to share my thoughts on the @BNPPARIBASOPEN event being canceled. Was there no chance to have the event without the public but then just televised? I feel like they could have included a bit more the players and keeping them up to date about certain possibilities.

And here is an answer for Bajin.
Steve Simon, WTA Tour chief, told me that staging the event without spectators was considered at length but ultimately rejected by tournament officials https://t.co/JfN1QxiCHO

An interesting suggestion from Tennys Sandgren.
I propose a new competition
Location: yardhouse
Event: drink for drink
Rules: last man/woman standing wins
Prize: everything https://t.co/SS2M91Ws8U

Ouch!
Entry List Updates: Indian Wells
OUT: Indian Wells
IN: Panic attacks
Next: 2021— Ricky Dimon (@Dimonator) March 9, 2020
And then there was this reply after the above tweet.
Indian Unwells

Spare a thought for the unemployed like Mackenzie McDonald.
Currently unemployed

Of course the big question is, what will the tennis community do with all the free time?
So…what are you gonna do with all your free time now that Indian Wells isn’t happening?
