Roger Federer has been deemed one of the best players in tennis history, but how much do you know about the Mighty Federer?

Federer was born in Basel, Switzerland, in 1981. His mother, Lynette Federer, is from South Africa, and his parents met when his father, Robert Federer, was visiting her home country.

He certainly got his athletic genes from his mother, who played netball and field hockey and participated in track and field events.

The Swiss star started playing tennis at eight years old, although he was still playing other sports like badminton and basketball at the time.

At just 11 years old, he was deemed the top junior tennis player, which made the 41-year-old focus his time on tennis.

Tennis is not the only thing he is talented at; he can also play the piano, having taken lessons as a child.

He turned Pro in 1998 and had already won Wimbledon and the Orange Bowl as a junior before being considered a professional tennis player.

The legend believed the serve was the game’s most crucial and challenging part. At a young age, his serve was his weakness, so he consistently used his forearm to gain strength.

The Mighty Federer’s signature tennis move was “The Sneak Attack by Roger.” The shot consisted of a mighty backhand strike that was rarely returned by his opponents.

He played in 23 countries throughout his career and won tournaments in 15 of them.

Federer looked up to legendary Pete Sampras while growing up, and he later broke his hero’s Grand Slam titles record of 14 at Wimbledon in 2009.

He loves Italian food and even had a personal pasta made for him by Barilla Pasta, with whom he also had a brand deal.

He is a big outdoors fan and has posted many of his hiking ventures through the Swiss Alps on social media.

In 2009, Federer married former professional tennis player Mirka Vavrinec, and together they have had two sets of twins- Myla, Charlene, Leo, and Lenny- completing their family in a unique way.

In 2003 he won the Swiss Open, which saw him being awarded an unusual prize- a milking cow named Juliet. Then in 2013, he received the same gift by getting a second cow named Desiree. However, he decided to give them to a dairy farmer because he didn’t know what to do with them.

The star is very charitable, having his foundation called the Roger Federer Foundation, which helps fund education in Switzerland and South Africa.

“You always want to win. That is why you play tennis, because you love the sport and try to be the best you can at it.” – Roger Federer.
