Serena Williams beats out Beyonce and Meghan Markle as second-most searched African American woman in 2022

Serena Williams proved to be the second most Googled African American woman of 2022.

Williams was searched at the rate of 1.65 million times per month this year.

There was a huge spike in interest in Serena Williams during the US Open.

New research has revealed the most Googled African American women of 2022 with Zendaya taking the top spot ahead of Serena Williams.

The research conducted by social commentators ThatSister analyzed search data for over 100 of the most influential African American women since 1 January 2022 to determine which woman was the most talked about of the year.

The study also revealed that Zendaya as the most Googled African American woman of the year with 2.71 million average searches each month of 2022.

Meghan Markle came in as the third most Googled African American woman this year.

Markle was Googled 1.56 million times per month this year.

Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry made headlines recently with the public dispute with the royal family and upcoming release of their Netflix tell-all documentary.

Beyoncé was Googled 1.20 million times per month across America in 2022, making her the fourth most talked about African American woman of the year, largely due to the release of her seventh studio album, Renaissance, dropping in July.

Former United States First Lady Michelle Obama ranks fifth, having been searched 1.19 million times per month on average – slightly behind Beyoncé.

Michelle Obama also recently released a book, titled ‘The Light We Carry’.

Another controversial figure in 2022, Jada Pinkett-Smith ranks sixth.

The wife of Will Smith was Googled 1.16 million times per month across the country. Pinkett-Smith found herself in the headlines after her husband slapped comedian Chris Rock during the Academy Awards.

Oprah Winfrey is the seventh most Googled African American woman of the year. Winfrey has been Googled 1.15 million times per month in America.

Rappers Nicki Minaj and Cardi B rank eighth and ninth respectively. Nicki Minaj was searched 1.12 million times per month across the country. Cardi B was searched 940K times per month throughout the year on average.

Whoopi Goldberg, host of The View, completes the top ten, being searched 648K times per month in America throughout the year.

A spokesperson for That Sister said: “This year has seen several notable celebrities hit the headlines for their acting successes, new albums and personal endeavours. This study offers a fascinating insight into which celebrities have had the biggest impact on the American people and it will be interesting to see if these search figures rise or fall in 2023.”
