Serena Williams hits comeback trail with Fed Cup and Miami dates comfirmed
Serena Williams will play her first competitive tennis in nearly 13 months at the Fed Cup this week.
Williams hasn’t played a WTA event since the 2017 Australian Open, which she won, due to the birth of her daughter last year.
However, the 36-year-old is ready to return in the US’ Fed Cup clash with the Netherlands this weekend.
“Serena’s just coming back. She played an exhibition in (December) and it’s incredible,” US Fed Cup captain Kathy Rinaldi said.
“It’s a quick turnaround after having her first child. She’s very professional and she has a lot of pride for playing for her country. She’ll be ready to go.”
Meanwhile, Williams has also taken a wild card for the Miami Open.
She’ll attempt to win her ninth title in the Florida event.
