Apostolos Tsitsipas has returned to the coaching team of his son Stefanos as the top ten star announced a change behind the scenes.

Tsitsipas reunited with former coach Mark Philippoussis earlier this season but he has called time on that association yet again.

He has claimed that the alliance was out of tune and feels that he will be better off returning to the direction of his father, who has coached him since he was very young.

Tsitipas revealed that his father was never far away even if he was absent from his player’s box for some tournaments.

He also claimed that rumours of a rift between himself and his father were pure speculation with no basis in fact.

“My dad has always been next to me,” Tsitsipas said.

“Even when he was not there and people see him, he was always there digitally.

“He’s here to stay. I have no intention of ever changing my dad or pushing him away.

“People are always going to try and create rumours or try to destroy what you have with someone that is really close to you in any way or form. He is someone that cannot be excluded.”

Tsistipas’ announcement gave off the air of someone who regretted making the changes to his coaching team.

He believes that the changes had a big impact on his identity as a player.

Tsitsipas felt that he wasn’t able to connect with Philippoussis as a coach and instructor in the same way that he had always done when his father was helping to guide his career.

“Mark Philippoussis is not part of the team anymore. I wanted to try with a coach and wanted to see how that might work.

“It was a little bit off tune in many ways. Not having the presence of my dad there felt like I was sort of losing a part of my identity as a player.

“I wasn’t able to just adjust to the new form or way or teachings or method that were applied by Mark who I admired and liked watching a lot on TV when I way younger.”

Tsitsipas was left disappointed with his efforts in the US Open season, as he says that he struggled to locate the source of why he wasn’t playing well.

“I was not good enough to deliver and score good results,” said Tsitsipas.

“I won’t blame it on anything. It’s just poor performance after Los Cabos. Had a tough transition to Toronto where I dealt with really bad jet lag that I never had such kind of experience on tour.”
