Tennis Today: Stefanos Tsitsipas ‘unintentionally’ drags Roger Federer into preferential treatment debate

In Tennis Today, Stefanos Tsitsipas makes the unusual move of ‘unintentionally’ dragging someone’s name into a debate by specifically name-dropping them.

Roger Federer won the Miami Open, and you may say that, especially at this stage of his career, you can’t really pay too much for what could be your last chance to see the Swiss master in action.

However, you’d be wrong, as we revealed the full horror of the Miami Open’s ticket pricing.

That win put Federer in the lead in the race for the ATP Finals at the end of the season, and Kyle Edmund has made his predictions about who will earn a place in the November showpiece.

That lineup may well include some of the best youngsters on tour, who are really starting to make an impression. We look at the five impressing to most right now.

Federer has publicly welcomed the surge of the youngsters, but he has also expressed some well-wishing for the batterer and bruised veterans currently battling injury. Here is what he said about Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.

Stefanos Tsitsipas isn’t happy, and he has sparked something of a debate.

During his Miami Open Men’s Doubles defeat to Mike and Bob Bryan, he accused umpire Gianluca Moscarella of giving ‘too many privileges’ to the more established players on the tour.

Tsitsipas’ anger was provoked by an unsuccessful challenge to a line call by the Bryan and can be seen here.

Tsitsipas asked Moscarella: “Why are you giving them so many privileges?”

Moscarella responded: “It’s not a privilege, they have the right to do it, it’s all I can do.”

Tsitsipas added: “The feeling that I have is that you’re giving them privilege like you do with Roger and everybody else.”

Interestingly, after directly dragging Roger Federer into it, Tsitsipas then took to social media to deny any intention to ‘drag Roger into it’.

It’s probably just some youthful frustration from an unashamedly passionate character with a strong will to win. After all, players have the same rights to challenge no matter who they are.

Nevertheless, Tsitsipas’ comments are sure to prompt debate.
