Tennis Today: ‘Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal the Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo of tennis’

In Tennis Today, the tennis Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal GOAT debate is complicated by comparing it to Cristiano Ronaldo v Lionel Messi, and Shanghai really knows how to throw a party.
What’s on the site
Anyone worrying that Novak Djokovic may not be over his shoulder injury can probably rest easier for a while. The world number one returned to winning ways last week by capturing the title in his first tournament back after the US Open.
The Shanghai Masters will provide a much sterner test for Djokovic, and he along with everyone else learned their fate with a fascinating draw that could throw up some very tasty match-ups quite early on.
Both Roger Federer and Andy Murray are also in that draw, and the former has been talking about the latter in pretty glowing terms.
And Naomi Osaka continued her winning ways last week by capturing her second WTA title in a row, although she had to overcome ‘a really trash attitude’ to do it.
What’s in the news
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been compared to Lionel Messie and Christiano Ronaldo by football legend Gianluigi Buffon.
Buffon, who is widely considered to be the greatest goalkeeper of the modern era, is a known avid tennis fan, and he has been discussing the Fedal rivalry in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Federer is infinite class, while Nadal is perseverance, sweat and also talent, otherwise you cannot win all the Grand Slams he achieved,” Buffon said.
“Nadal’s hard work and constant desire to improve himself allowed him to be on a par with the most talented tennis player in history.
“The comparison is obvious and makes me smile, as Leo Messi is Federer, while Cristiano Ronaldo is like Nadal.”
And Andy Murray has been discussing his return to singles action in an interview with Sky Sports.
You can see a clip of that below.
