Tennis Today: Spain may have found the new Rafael Nadal, and relive the original Delpo forehand

In Tennis Today, Spanish tennis is buzzing at the emergence of a potential successor to Rafael Nadal’s crown, and we have a reminder for anyone who has forgotten just how incredible Juan Martin del Potro’s forehand once was.
What’s on the site
How is Andy Murray getting on, you say? We’re glad you asked. We have a fitness update from a very good source, his brother, and it’s sounding guardedly positive.
There was some less good news for the ATP Tour’s younger players, though who have basically been told by Darren Cahill to forget about winning until the established elite quit.
You can also relive Tara Moore’s incredible comeback win from 0-6, 0-5 and match-point down here.
And can anyone dethrone Rafael Nadal as the king of clay this spring? We ask the question.
What’s in the news
Fans of Spanish tennis have been getting a little tense in recent months wondering where their next big male star is going to come from.
Rafael Nadal’s body is starting to creak with him struggling to make tournaments, and the eternally lovable David Ferrer is on a farewell tour before retirement.
Meanwhile, Pablo Carreno Busta is on a little rankings slide, and Roberto Bautista Agut and Fernando Verdasco are the wrong side of 30.
However, they may well have found themselves a new Nadal.
15-year-old Carlos Alcaraz Garfia has made waves in Murcia this week by becoming the fourth youngest ever player to defeat a top-200 player (Pedro Martinez).
It is some achievement for the teen, who is just a month or so older than Rafael Nadal was when he beat Ramon Delgado in 2002.
There are no guarantees, especially given the other three names in the top five (Bernard Tomic, Richard Gasquet, and Ryan Harrison).
However, it’s certainly some achievement and a name to watch out for in the future.
What’s on social media?
Juan Martin del Potro is utterly adorable now, but before all those wrist injuries he was downright ferocious. Just ask Roger Federer…
Make sure the volume on your or is turned for these absolutely thunderous forehands…
