Tennis Today: Novak Djokovic reveals locker room secrets about Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal
In Tennis Today, Novak Djokovic says he, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal hide from each other, before casually playing a bit of street tennis in Belgrade.
What’s o the site
Novak Djokovic isn’t as popular as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. We know it, and he knows it, and he has admitted that he would really rather it was very different.
He may have to put up with it for a little while longer too, as Rafael Nadal has given a retirement update via his coach, and it doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere any time soon.
But it’s not all bad news for Djokovic, who has received resounding backing from an ATP rival in the seemingly endless GOAT debate.
Dominic Thiem is the latest player to have his heart broken by Djokovic of course, and there was very nearly a hangover for the Austrian in his first match since the Australian Open final.
We also have updates from ATP Marseille and WTA Dubai, with no shortage of big names suffering shock defeats.
What’s in the news
It’s been a while since a Borg has been in the tennis news, but today is the day all that changes.
That said, the news isn’t all that great.
Leo Borg, who is the son of former Wimbledon and French Open hero Bjorn Borg made his professional debut on Tuesday.
It wasn’t all that successful for the 16-year-old, though, with him suffering a 6-3, 6-1 defeat to Tseng Chun-hsin of Taiwan at a Challenger event inn Bergamo, Italy.
Nick Kyrgios, meanwhile, is still struggling to capitalise on his Australian Open momentum.
The Australian pulled out injured from New York last week, and Delray Beach has also some too early for him.
“I’m dealing with a little bit of a left wrist injury; been dealing with it for the last week or so,” Kyrgios told Tennis.com as he withdrew from the tournament.
“Some sort of tendon thing. Apart from that feeling pretty good.”
And the coronavirus has caught up with tennis, with the ITF conforming that the Chinese team have withdrawn from their Davis Cup tie against Romania due to the epidemic.
