Tennis Today: Andy Murray given big boost ahead of possible Wimbledon return

In tennis today, Wimbledon have given Andy Murray every opportunity to play at this year’s tournament, and Bianca Andreescu is back on the court (sort of).
What’s on the site
There was some joyous news in the tennis world yesterday, as Sloane Stephens announced her engagement to footballer boyfriend Jozy Altidore.
But how have other women tennis stars fared in the past when venturing into the world of cross-sports dating? Well, it’s fair to say that there has been some very mixed results.
Roger Federer’s fitness trainer, meanwhile, has given an update on how the Swiss master is feeling ahead of his return to clay-court tennis, and it’s a very positive one.
He has also offered some insight to Federer’s great rival Rafael Nadal, explaining why the Spaniard feels so ‘protected’ on clay.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic has been called out by Alexander Zverev, who has demanded he tell the players his plan after his part in ousting ATP chief Chris Kermode.
What’s in the news
Andy Murray has been given a deadline by Wimbledon to apply for a wildcard, although the tournament have suggested he may be treated as a special case.
Murray is entitled to use his protected ranking to enter Wimbledon normally, although a wildcard would allow him to use that entitlement at another tournament should he wish.
Wimbledon have today given an update on the situation.
“There have been no discussions with Andy yet,” said chairman Philip Brook. It’s too soon to know the answer to that one.
“Should he wish to apply, he would do so in the normal way. We have a scheduled meeting on June 18 ahead of the championships to decide on wild cards.
“We have a process which applies to all players.”
However, when pushed over whether Murray may be treated as a special case, Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis hinted it’s a strong possibility.
Lewis said: “If Andy came forward with a strong case, I am sure we would work with him.”
