‘This decision should NOT have been made’ – US Open attacks French Open over coronavirus change

Organisers at the US Open have criticised French Open chiefs for their ‘unilateral’ decision to reschedule Roland Garros due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The French Open was due to take place at the end of May, but with the coronavirus outbreak causing a global lockdown, it looked increasingly likely to be called off.
They, though, preempted that decision, suddenly announcing on Tuesday night that they have rescheduled for September 20 – just one week after the US Open finishes.
It has not gone down well, with the Laver Cup also furious given it now directly conflicts with their dates.
“At a time when the world is coming together, we recognise that such a decision should not be made unilaterally,” a US Open statement read.
“Therefore the USTA would only do so in full consultation with the other Grand Slam tournaments, the WTA and ATP, the ITF and our partners, including the Laver Cup.“
The US Open is not alone in the criticisms of the French Open’s decision.

The Laver Cup, which is scheduled to take place during the first week of the rearranged French Open, has furiously released a statement saying they will not reschedule.
A growing number of players have also lashed out at the decision on social media too, saying they were not consulted at all.
