Tim Henman has revealed he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Novak Djokovic won two Grand Slam titles, and Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner both claimed one Major each, in the 2024 season.

The former world No 4 has “no doubt” Djokovic is the “clear favourite” to win the Australian Open and groups the Serbian’s young rivals Alcaraz and Sinner together as the joint-second favourites.

Djokovic won three of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year, securing the Australian Open, French Open and US Open crowns. The 36-year-old fell in five epic sets to Alcaraz in the title match at Wimbledon in July – his first loss in a completed match at the All England Club since 2016.

The world No 1 has won four of the last six Majors stretching back to Wimbledon in 2022, with Alcaraz also triumphing at the 2022 US Open.

Alcaraz, the current world No 2, had a superb season in 2023, winning six ATP titles. As well as his Wimbledon triumph, the 20-year-old Spaniard claimed Masters 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Madrid this season.

World No 4 Sinner is seeking his first Grand Slam title, with his run to the semi-finals of Wimbledon in July this year his best result at a Major to date.

The 22-year-old Italian had an excellent year in 2023 as he won four titles, including the biggest of his career so far at the Canada Masters in August, as well as ATP 500 tournaments in Beijing and Vienna in October.

Henman, who reached six Grand Slam semi-finals, identified Djokovic as the player to beat at the Australian Open and next season, but also feels Alcaraz and Sinner could both triumph on the biggest stages.

“I would put Djokovic as the clear favourite, there’s no doubt in my mind. And then second favourite, I would put Alcaraz and Sinner together,” the Brit assessed in an interview with Eurosport.

“Now, I know Alcaraz has won a couple of Slams, but for me, Sinner, the last couple of months of 2023, he played at a different level, a new level for him. And I think that quality, but also the confidence and belief from winning those big matches, beating so many top ten players consecutively, was fantastic.

“Look, there’s only four Majors next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if Djokovic won a couple and Alcaraz and Sinner won [one] each. So only time will tell.”

Djokovic is the defending Australian Open champion, having won the Melbourne Grand Slam for a record-extending 10th time in January 2023. The 2024 Australian Open will run from 14-28 January.
