She has been the stand-out star on the women’s tour in 2021, with Emma Raducanu doubtless looking back on the last year with a sense of bewilderment.

The teenager started the year as an unknown hopeful, wondering whether her A-Levels would still be on amid the Covid crisis and with only a few British tennis experts talking up her hopes of breaking into the world’s top 100.

Little did they know that she would shatter the glass ceiling in the game in stunning fashion as she made the fourth round at Wimbledon, won the US Open in sensational fashion and ended the year at No.19 in the WTA rankings.
