2024 Preview
This year’s US Open could be one of the most memorable in years, with intrigue high in both the men’s and women’s singles tournaments at Flushing Meadows.
The build-up to the men’s event has been dominated by talk of Jannik Sinner and his doping violation, though the world No 1 remains one of the big favourites for the title.
Joining him at the top of the pecking order are four-time champion Novak Djokovic and 2022 winner Carlos Alcaraz, who are the second and third seeds respectively.
Fourth seed and 2022 finalist Alexander Zverev and 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev are among the other potential contenders.
Leading the women’s field is world No 1 and top seed Iga Swiatek, looking to recapture the title she won in 2022.
The Pole has not reached a Slam semi-final outside of Roland Garros since then and will look to find her best form in New York.
Arguably the favourite for the title is second seed Aryna Sabalenka, who reached the final in 2023 and is the back-to-back Australian Open champion.
Third seed Coco Gauff looks to defend her title following her epic 2023 triumph, with Elena Rybakina and Jasmine Paolini among the other favourites.
