It was a big weekend for German car manufacturers as Iga Swiatek and Holger Rune were the recipients of impressive sports cars.

World No 1 Swiatek defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart on Sunday and besides picking up a winner’s cheque of €104,000, the three-time Grand Slam winner also added another brand new Porsche to her collection.

Last year the Pole won a metallic red Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo and this year she received the Neptune blue version of the same model.

Organisers described the car as a: “Practical all-rounder amongst electric sports cars impresses with superior performance and long range. The power unit produces up to 460 kW (625 PS), overboost power with Launch Control is up to 560 kW (761 PS). The most powerful version of the Sport Turismo accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. Its range (WLTP) stretches combined to between 430 and 458 kilometres.”

Swiatek took the car for a drive following her victory over Sabalenka.

However, she did give her father the honour of choosing the car, saying: “Thank you to my dad, he’s going to choose the car probably, so if he chooses wrong it’s his fault.”

The Pole, though, quickly added: “It’s impossible to choose wrong with a Porsche.”

Meanwhile in Munich, Rune also won a car for the second year in a row as he made back-to-back titles at the BMW Open, but he still doesn’t have his driver’s licence so instead he was only able to pose in front of his new Gran Coupé BMW i4 M50 following his win over Botic van de Zandschulp.

However, he was the passenger for a short trip around the court.

In case you were wondering about the car, per organisers: “The four-door Gran Coupé BMW i4 M50 is produced in Munich and is now the best-selling BMW M model, having been launched in November 2021. BMW has been the title partner of the BMW Open by American Express since 1987, which this year boasts total prize money of 630,705 Euro.”

Rune’s 2022 car is being used as a family car as he told Bild: “The winning car from last year has become our family car now. Mostly my father drives them. I still haven’t got my driver’s license. It’s on my list but it’s very time-consuming.”
