Who is Alexander Zverev’s girlfriend? Former actress and model Sophia Thomalla
In 2021, world No 2 Alexander Zverev started dating former TV actress and model Sophia Thomalla.
Since then, the pair have been seen together at the vast majority of events, with Thomalla providing plenty of support towards her boyfriend.
The 35-year-old German was also a key part of Netflix’s ‘Break Point’, which sought to explore life on the tour, and the connection between the two was obvious.
Tomalla’s achievements include hosting a German version of the US dating show ‘Are You the One’ in 2014, and she has appeared on modelling magazines such as ‘Playboy’ and ‘FHM’. She has also appeared on various German TV shows, ranging from topics such as dance to product marketing.
Zverev spoke about his girlfriend in late 2021 – having dated for months: “I think for tennis players it is always very important who you have next to you.
“Sophia is someone who gives me peace and security, I play extremely well with her behind me and I hope that will continue to be the case next year and maybe even better. I haven’t achieved all of my goals yet.”
Previously, Sophia Thomalla had dated former Liverpool football player Loris Karius, as well as the lead singer of the British rock band ‘Bush’ – Gavin Rossdale.

At the 2025 Australian Open, the pair shared an unusual handshake – something that seems to be a common occurrence between the two.
When quizzed about the moment, the world No 2 said: “Oh my God, I mean, what, what are you doing to me? I’ve just played for four hours now.
“Yeah, I mean, we, we’ve been together for three and a half years now, like, you have got to understand we’re German.
“This is like the coolest version of German you can be. So, like, this is like the top of German coolness, like it doesn’t go any further than that. So we, we did it, we did well.”
Zverev has also suggested stability in his private life will help him on court.
“I think for tennis players it is always very important who you have next to you,” Zverev said. “Sophia is someone who gives me peace and security.
“Everything is wonderful, everything is going well. We are happy that we are together.”
Thomalla has had her fair share of controversy. For example, in 2017, she took a stance against the #MeToo campaign: “I think the campaign is an insult to the true rape victims.”
She has also been asked about the seven-year age gap between them and she insisted it was not an issue they have discussed.
“I don’t think anything of it,” she said. “It doesn’t really matter to me and it was clear to me from the start that people are suspicious. Even if it had only lasted a month, it wouldn’t have mattered to me.
“Tennis is interesting. We don’t lead a normal life. We get up very early, we’re on the go a lot. You don’t have a base to hold on to. Accordingly, we don’t have any holidays, but are mostly in hotels.”
Zverev had previously dated Olya Sharypova, a former model, before the pair separated in 2019.
