Serena Williams has been married to Alexis Ohanian since November 2017, with her husband being a regular courtside supporter during the latter stage of her professional career.

Early life
Ohanian was born on April 24th, 1983 in Brooklyn, New York City to parents Anke and Chris.
His father worked as a pharmacy technician, as well as a travel agent, whilst his mother was a German immigrant – with German being Alexis’ main language whilst growing up at home as an only child.
Ohanian’s parental grandparents travelled to the United States as a result of the Armenian genocide.
As a young child, the family moved to Maryland before he attended the University of Virginia looking to major in computing science – ultimately studying history and business commerce.
Ohanian took computer programming classes at community college, eventually making websites for various non-profit organisations as a teenager – hiding his age when sending offer emails.
In 2005, after graduating from the university, Steve Huffman – his friend and college roommate – and Ohanian created the website ‘Reddit’, intended to be an online bulletin board, with it later being acquired by a mass media company for between $10 million and $20 million.
He then stepped back from the company in February 2018 and resigned from the Reddit board of directors in 2020.
As of March 2025, Ohanian’s Reddit is now worth nearly $22 billion in market capitalisation.
Relationship with Serena Williams
Ohanian first met Serena Williams in May of 2015, when the tennis legend was participating in Rome’s Italian Open.
On December 29, 2016, the two got engaged. Their wedding took place at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans on November 16, 2017, with attenndies including Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, and Anna Wintour.
Speaking about their marriage, Williams stated: “My whole life I’ve been by myself, and with my family, and so the merging with a partner that is just as successful and just as motivated and everything, it’s awesome and it’s amazing. It’s been really, really fun.”

In August 2022, Williams announced that she would retire from professional tennis, with Ohanian penning a touching note on social media, stating: “I’ve seen over the last 7 years how much y’all love my wife – what she means to so many, worldwide,”
“It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Plenty of folks have told me ‘how Reddit changed their life,’ but the scale & impact of ‘how Serena changed my life’ stories absolutely dwarfs it.
“And that’s just the stuff I hear when people come up to me to say hi. You simply cannot overstate the breadth and depth of influence she’s had on so many people. As far as I can tell, she has no idea.”
The two had a second child – Adira River Ohanian – on August 22, 2023, with Serena leaping back into the public spotlight earlier this year as she made an appearance as a danger in the Super Bowl half-time show starring Kendrick Lamar.
