Who is Marketa Vondrousova’s husband Stepan Simek?
Marketa Vondrousova has proven a captivating figure at Wimbledon and enjoyed the support of her husband Stepan Simek, from back home in Prague.
The couple were married on 16 July 2022 after getting engaged in August 2021.
Simek had been at home in Prague taking care of the couple’s cat and working but jumped on a flight to the UK for the Wimbledon final.
He works as an IT Project Manager for the multinational tech firm CGI having previously delivered a payments system migration for Aevi.
“I think for semis he won’t come,” Vondrousova said after she won the quarter-final match. “We’ll see what happens. He has to work. He has to take care of our cat. He has to stay home.”
The couple have been an item for quite some time having dated for five years before their engagement.
He is always her biggest supporter and after her win over Svitolina she confirmed that he would be at the final.
“He’s coming tomorrow with my sister,” she said during the press conference after the last four battle.
“We texted the catsitter to come to our home and he’s coming tomorrow.”
Simek was a handy junior player himself but did not turn professional although he has consistently supported his wife’s career on the WTA Tour.
He offered a little telephonic coaching to her during her rain-hit quarter-final with Jessica Pegula.
“I actually didn’t see my coach,” Vodrousova said.
“I was alone in the waiting room. I chatted a bit with my husband. We talked on the phone. He just said, ‘Try to fight, you are playing good, you are playing a great match.’ That was it. I think the break helped actually. It was good.”
Simek presently still resides in his native Prague in the Czech Republic with Vondrouová and their cat, Frankie.
Together, Vondrouová and her life partner have traversed the globe. The tennis pro frequently travels for her job, but she also likes taking trips with Simek. The two have been to places like Athens, Greece, and New York City together.
The smitten couple attended their first NBA match in Los Angeles in March 2020, when the L.A. Lakers and L.A. Clippers squared off. They enjoyed a pleasant holiday in the Maldives a few months prior in November 2019, and Vondrousová shared a picture of the couple sharing a passionate kiss in the middle of a pool during their time there.
