Serena Williams holds the record for the most women’s finals reached at the US Open in the Open Era. 

Molla Mallory, who won eight US Open titles between 1915 and 1928,  is the only woman in tennis history who can match Williams’ 10 finals at the New York major.

Here are the nine players who have featured in the most women’s singles finals at the US Open since the first Open edition of the event in 1968.

Billie Jean King, Evonne Goolagong, Kim Clijsters, Venus Williams and Monica Seles are all joint-fifth for the most US Open women’s finals in the Open Era with four.

King and Clijsters both claimed three US Open titles (King also won one before the Open Era); Williams and Seles secured two; while Goolagong lost all four of her finals.

=3. Steffi Graf – 8

Steffi Graf featured in eight US Open championship matches across her 14 appearances at Flushing Meadows and was a five-time champion.

The German played the US Open for the first time in 1984 and reached her first final in 1987, which she lost to Martina Navratilova.

Graf triumphed against Monica Seles in her last final at the hard-court major in 1996 and her last appearance at the event was in 1998.

Martina Navratilova was an eight-time finalist at the US Open and collected four titles from her 21 campaigns at the New York Grand Slam.

The Czech-American made her US Open debut in 1973 and competed in her first final in 1981, when she was beaten to Tracy Austin.

Navratilova fell to Monica Seles in her final title match at Flushing Meadows in 1991, while her last appearance at the tournament came in 1993.

2. Chris Evert – 9

Chris Evert contested nine championship matches in her 19 appearances at the US Open and claimed six titles at the New York major.

The American played the US Open for the first time in 1971 and progressed to her maiden final in 1975, when she overcame Evonne Goolagong.

Evert was beaten by Navratilova in her last-ever US Open final in 1984 and made her final appearance at the event in 1989.

1. Serena Williams – 10

Serena Williams reached a record 10 finals from her 21 campaigns at the US Open and secured six titles at her home Grand Slam event.

The American made her US Open debut in 1998 and reached her first final in 1999, when she defeated Martina Hingis to claim her maiden major crown.

Williams lost to Bianca Andreescu in her last title match at the hard-court Grand Slam in 2019, while she retired after her final appearance in New York in 2022.
