Your 2020 ATP Tour revised calendar: Provisional schedule confirms US Open with French Open pushed back

The 2020 ATP Tour is set to restart on August 14 with the Washington Open while the US Open will keep its original slot with the French Open getting yet another new date.

Tennis has been on an enforced break since the start of March due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the sport is determined to get going again and the ATP has issued a provisional calendar for the remainder of the year.

The ATP 500 hard-court Washington Open will get things underway on Friday August 14 and that will be followed by the Cincinnati Masters, with the ATP Masters 1000 event switching to Flushing Meadows.

The North American swing will draw to a close at Flushing Meadows with the US Open taking place from August 31 to September 13.

Tennis will then move to Europe for the clay-court season, which will start with the Austrian Open in Kitzbühel on September 7 before the two ATP Masters 1000 events, the Madrid Open and Italian Open.

The red-dirt swing will conclude with the French Open now starting at Roland Garros on September 28.

The ATP has issued a revised provisional calendar that sets a pathway for the resumption of the Tour.

“Our objective has been to reschedule as many tournaments as possible and salvage as much of the season as we can,” AtP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said.

“It has been a truly collaborative effort and we hope to add more events to the calendar as the situation evolves. I would like to recognise our tournaments’ efforts to operate during these challenging times, as well as our players who will be competing under different conditions. At every turn, ensuring that the resumption of the Tour takes place in a safe environment will be paramount.”
