Tennis Today: A £10k Andy Murray-themed penguin, Serena Williams opens up about ‘pal Meghan’

In Tennis Today, Judy Murray splashes the cash on an Andy Murray-themed penguin in the name of charity while one paper has four different stories about Serena Williams’ friendship with the Duchess of Sussex.
What’s on the site
After last year’s dream team of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, this year’s Laver Cup gave us Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic so it’s only right that we look at a list of the very best tennis has to offer.
So who makes your super doubles tennis team?
It’s a new week which means Deggsy Bilton is back with another round of betting tips for the ATP Tour. Do give it a read to see if you should put money on Andy Murray at Shenzhen.
Staying with Murray, just days after announcing he will end his 2018 season early, the three-time Grand Slam winner revealed that he wants a lighter playing schedule in future.
What’s in the news
A headline we never thought we’d see, but here you go “Judy Murray spends £10k on Andy Murray-themed penguin as auction raises £539k for Maggie’s Dundee at V&A Dundee”.
The Dundee Evening Telegraph reports that “The penguin, which was sited at The Fergusson Gallery in Perth, was based on the 2013 Wimbledon win by Judy’s son Andy.
“The penguin is wearing an adidas top, with the Wimbledon trophy and strawberries on the front and scoreboard at the back.”
It’s for a good cause, of course.
Naomi Osaka recently signed a massive new sponsorship deal with Adidas and Anya Alvarez in The Guardian says it shows that “Brands are beginning to come round to the idea that female sports can pull in huge audiences and plenty of potential customers”.
As you will have read on Monday, Serena Williams appeared on The Sunday Project over the weekend and she discussed the controversial US Open final.
However, she was also asked about her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex and she revealed that they “are relying on each other a lot recently”, reports The Independent.
The Express also covers the story of Serena’s friendship with Meghan Markle and they have four different versions of it.
