Tennis Today: Andy Murray pokes fun at Nick Kyrgios as Roger Federer makes ‘Pique Cup’ jibe
In Tennis Today, it’s about poking fun, having parting shots and taking digs.
What’s on the site
Nick Kyrgios is back in the news as he received a pep-talk from the chair umpire during his second-round match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
The top two seeds in the women’s draw at the US Open are gone as Caroline Wozniacki was dumped out in the second round.

What’s in the news
Tennis Today reported earlier this week about Roger Federer and Gerard Pique could clash heads over the Laver Cup and Davis Cup.
And now Telegraph Sport reports that Federer has admitted that he has not yet spoken to Pique, adding “be careful: the Davis Cup should not become the Pique Cup”.
We have had quite a few stories about tennis rules over the last few days as first there was the shirt-changing debacle involving Alize Cornet, then the coaching controversy featuring Andy Murray and Fernando Verdasco and now the Nick Kyrgios pep-talk.
In Telegraph Sport, Sally Jones says “Tennis wouldn’t be tennis without its pettifogging rules”. (Subscription)
And in case you were wondering about Cornet’s views on being penalised for removing her shirt on court, she was not too concerned as she felt French tennis chief Bernard Giudicelli’s comments about Serena Williams’ catsuit was “10,000 times worse”, reports The Independent.

We probably haven’t heard the last of the Murray- Verdasco heat rule spat as the Brit left this on Instagram. Check out the hashtag.

Here is Andy Roddick’s views on ‘pep-talk gate’.
So first off Layhani is a good man who genuinely cares about people. I really like him as a human….. he did something he shouldn’t have. This is behavior we should see more of these days. Unfortunately it was the wrong time/place for it. Selfishly I hope they go easy on him https://t.co/lwU63jVS3I

And then there was this from Murray on Kyrgios’ Instagram post.
Andy Murray to Nick Kyrgios: “When you going to announce mohamed lahyani as your new coach?”
Dominic Thiem: “Andy Murray you are a legend 😀” pic.twitter.com/74GZasJX8D

There was this from Kyrgios as well.
Heckler tells Kyrgios “just leave, we want Genie” Bouchard, who’s up next on Court 17.
Kyrgios responds: “Well, you’ll never have her.”
