Tennis Today: Andy Murray’s bottom making the headlines, and WTA star confirms coach split

In Tennis Today, Andy Murray’s bottom is making big headlines in the UK, a struggling WTA star ditches her coach, and World Photography Day is embraced in style
What’s on the site
Let’s start with Andy Murray. The former world number one is probably having the most highly-scrutinised comebacks from injury in history.
The latest update has been issued, with the former world number one explaining his decision to essentially ditch doubles to step-up his singles comeback – which is good news, we think.
It’s pretty much all good news for Daniil Medvedev at the moment, but is the new world number five a serious contender for the US Open? His latest opponent certainly seems to think so.
And who fancies making some money from the bookies this week? Our betting expert got Medvedev’s Cincinnati Masters win spot on, and he’s back with a fresh tip or two for Winston-Salem.
What’s in the news
Well, Andy Murray’s bottom is in the news, to put it simply. We are not kidding of punning, either. His actual bottom.
The British tennis star has won the oddly coveted ‘Rear of the Year’ award, apparently beating the likes of Idris Elba to the crown.
“Sir Andy is clearly one of Britain’s most-popular athletes,” judge of some kind Tony Edwards said.
“His well-toned physique commands an army of fans, particularly around Wimbledon fortnight.”
Thankfully, perhaps even mercilessly, Murray declined to comment.
In other news, Sloane Stephens has announced she has opted to split from her coach Sven Groeneveld.
It’s probably not a huge surprise in truth as the American has endured a bit of a decline in recent months, but it’s now official.
And Amanda Anisimova has sadly withdrawn from the US Open due to the death of her father.
What’s on social media
Just us, or is Tomas Berdych’s “happy face” a little scary?
Sloane Stephens seems to really enjoy waking up in New York…
The Rafael Nadal academy celebrated World Photography Day properly. We approve.
And Barbora Strycova got all artistic on us…
What’s on TV
It’s a quiet week, as is usual directly before a Grand Slam, but you can watch the Winston Salem (ATP) on Amazon Prime, and the Bronx Open (WTA) on BT Sport.
