Tennis Today: Bernard Tomic ‘agrees’ with controversial Nick Kyrgios French Open claims

In Tennis Today, Bernard Tomic joins Nick Kyrgios on the ‘Roland Garros’ sucks train, and Serena Williams is savaged for ‘attention seeking’.

I’m sure you’ve all noticed that Rafael Nadal is a little bit good at playing tennis on clay. However, have you ever wondered exactly what it is about his game that makes him so deadly on the red dirt?
It’s almost certainly not new information, but it’s always worth a little reminder, and we have provided you with a full breakdown of Nadal’s clay-game.
Day three of the French Open was, naturally, packed with talking points. Four in particular caught our eye, with Naomi Osaka top of the agenda.
Alexander Zverev was in action on Tuesday and, although he won, he made some admissions over his difficult year so far in 2019 and why he perhaps hasn’t kicked on since winning the ATP finals in November.
There was also a welcome return for Juan Martin del Potro, but how is he feeling after once again hitting the comeback trail following injury? As philosophically as we’ve now come to expect, is the answer.
Remember, you can catch up and keep up with all the latest news from Roland Garros on our dedicated French Open news page.
What’s in the news
Shock, horror! Bernard Tomic agrees with fellow Australian Nick Kyrgios that the “French Open sucks”.
If you remember Kyrgios last week declared that the “French Open sucks” and then a few days later pulled out of the tournament due to injury.
And now Bernie has added his two cents, telling AFP and the rest of the press: “I agree with him, with everything. The tournament is not for me.”
Tomic went on to give perhaps the least convincing defence of an accusation of tanking ever heard, adding: “[I’m] pretty sure I did (gave his best). But, you know, the surface is not good for me.”
In other news, Serena Williams has been on the receiving end of a bit of a savage attack from Spectator columnist ‘Cockburn’ who, when referencing her zebra-print outfit, raged: It seems that, for Williams, winning tournaments isn’t enough.
“She must be talked about, and she has to get into matters beyond sport: feminism, or racism, perhaps soon even ageism.
“She must be heard by everyone — even people who don’t care about tennis — if she is to sell enough Serena merchandise and feel good.”
