And news from the defending champions Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka.
Away from the US Open and Andy Murray is preparing for his first ATP Challenger Tour event since 2005 and he will take on a 17-year-old at the Rafa Nadal Open.
What’s in the news
Rafael Nadal adopted a “risky strategy” ahead of the US Open, according to Greg Rusedski in Express Sport.
“It is a little bit of a risky strategy playing just one event before the US Open.”
World No 1 and defending US Open champion Naomi Osaka has not been herself recently and The Independent’s Jonathan Liew feels we “should be asking questions about her sadness”.
“The idea that a competitor at the top level may not necessarily be suicidal or inconsolable or angry or vengeful, but simply quite sad, quite often, remains largely unaddressed.”
Johanna Konta will lead the British charge at the US Open and in The Telegraph she says has “shrugged off Wimbledon hangover talk”.
Dan Evans is in typically feisty mood after splitting with coach David Felgate with Daily Mail quoting him as saying “I haven’t got time on my side to be p***ing around paying someone for nothing”.
Coco Gauff enjoyed a fairytale run at Wimbledon, but The Guardian says her “US Open bow will test her confidence amid cautionary tales”.
