Tennis Today: Sue Barker is dreaming of Roger Federer, and Caroline Wozniacki to get stunning send-off

In Tennis Today, Sue Barker is dreaming of Roger Federer, and Caroline Wozniacki appears to be going out in style after she retires next month.

Let’s start with a feature – a Kevin Palmer feature specifically, which is our absolute favourite kind of feature. Ever wondered what goes into making the class tennis shoes that can make a serious difference o the pros? Well, wonder no more…
One man who probably seriously needs to reconsider his footwear given his habit of destroying them on court, is Stefanos Tsitsipas. He is ending 2019 by firing off a serious warning to Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
Speaking of the ‘big three’, is tennis heading for dark times after they retire? One former pro believes so.
And, in case you missed it, the same former pro has had his say on the GOAT debate, but we’ll leave you to judge how impartial he is.
What’s in the news
Sue Barker is desperate to get Roger Federer on her BBC Sports Quiz and she doesn’t mind admitting it.
Barker won the French Open as a player in 1976, but is more familiar to modern audiences a broadcaster having hosted A Question Of Sport for 22 years and counting.
The panel quiz show sees sports stars put their knowledge to the test – and Barker knows who her dream guest would be.
“I’ve tried over the years and we’ve had John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Andy Murray, Jamie Murray and Tim Henman has been a regular for years, he’s brilliant,” Barker told What’s on TV.
“I’d certainly love to get more tennis players on. I’m still trying to get Roger Federer on the show. I don’t think it will happen, but you never know!”
Elsewhere, Caroline Wozniacki’s farewell looks like being a brilliant partisan affair.
The Dane will retire at the Australian Open before playing an exhibition against Serena Williams in Copenhagen in May – and it’s already sold out.
“The spectator interest is overwhelming,” said Mads H. Frederiksen, who is a key organiser of the event.
“Ticket sales were started on Tuesday morning. Already, there are only 1,600 tickets left and they are sold today.
“We have VIP tickets back to companies, and here we are also very interested. It is my clear opinion that we could have sold the double number of tickets.
“No doubt it will be the huge tribute of Caroline we had hoped for.”
