In Tennis Today, Roger Federer upsets England fans by celebrating South Africa’s Rugby World Cup win, and we get a cute overload from the home of Serena Williams.
What’s on the site
Novak Djokovic got back to winning ways at the Paris Masters on Sunday, and he was understandably delighted and typically analytical afterwards.
There was also success for Ashleigh Barty, who capped a brilliant season by winning the WTA Finals in Shenzhen, and you can see her reaction here.
Denis Shapovalov may have missed out on what would have been a first Masters level title in Paris, but he is sure to have been boosted by Djokovic’s assessment of him prior to the final.
We have a pair of exclusive interviews on the site, too. The first from Judy Murray, who has been talking to us about what it’s been like watching her son’s make tennis history.
WTA Chief Micky Lawler also spoke to Kevin Palmer about her hopes for the organisation’s future, and specifically where female tennis coaches can make their mark.
What’s in the news
Roger Federer may have stepped away from tennis last week to focus on his preparation for the ATP Finals, but that hasn’t stopped him making the news.
The Swiss legend has upset some England fans by very publicly celebrating South Africa’s Rugby World Cup final win over Eddie Jones’ men on Sunday.
“Maximum respect for all Rugby players, amazing toughness and fairness,” he tweeted.
“South Africa you did it! World Cup Champions, wow! I am incredibly happy!”
Before England fans get too angry, though, it should be pointed out that Federer has strong connections to South Africa.
His mother is from the country and his Roger Federer Foundation has a strong presence there too.
There was also a video message from Federer to the victorious springboks in which Federer said: “Couldn’t be more happy for you and the team.
“What a victory, what an amazing team effort. You guys spent so much time together and you ended up with the big win.
“I was watching it, I was following it. Many, many congratulations and I hope I can meet you soon.
“You’re the best. Well done everybody, you guys are amazing.”
