There was a positive update from Andy Murray on Thursday as the former world No 1 revealed that he is hopeful of returning to action before the end of March.
Roger Federer is currently on an extended injury layoff and many fear that this could be the beginning of the end for the Swiss icon, but John McEnroe insists you can’t write off the 38-year-old.
As for on-court action, Johanna Konta is into the quarter-finals of the Monterrey Open, but the British No 1 admits it was an “uncomfortable” match.
And then Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin made it back-to-back wins in Lyon, but she had to save a match point to advance.
What’s in the news
Time magazine has released their 100 Women of the Year Issue and Serena Williams and Billie Jean King are flying the tennis flag.
The list contains their most influential women of the past century and only four women athletes feature with Williams and King among them. Although King forms part of American Women edition cover for 1975.
Williams, though, headlines the 2003 edition.
“In her decades of greatness, Williams has inspired a new generation of tennis talent, young women of color who, like her, dared to take up what’s long been a lily-white sport.”
John Millman has revealed that he played with a torn calf muscle during his Australian Open clash against Roger Federer at the start of the year.
In case you forget, Millman came close to upsetting the 20-time Grand Slam winner as he held an 8-4 advantage in the fifth-set tie-breaker, but Federer stormed back to win.
“I tore my calf before the tournament and made the calf tear a fair bit worse in that match,” he told the Adelaide Advertiser (subscription so via Yahoo! Sport Australia).
“I am fully recovered now, the last couple of weeks on the tour has been trying to find my feet again but this camp has come really at the right time and I am feeling really good.”
