Andy Murray and Juncheng Shang recently took part in a meal swap event during the Shanghai Masters and there were hilarious consequences for former world No 1 Murray.

One of the best perks about being a professional tennis player is the fact that you can try many delicacies and different cuisines.

And the ATP Tour’s latest fun activity for players is take part in meal swaps as stars from two different countries try cuisines from each other’s homeland.

Scotland’s finest, Murray, and rising Chinese star Juncheng were the latest to exchange cuisines and it all started well for both before things escalated with Murray tearing up.

The 18-year-old Juncheng was first up as he had to try Scottish shortbread before Murray had a go at Chinese fried bean sauce noodles.

Of course Haggis was always going to be on the menu as it is, after all, Scotland’s national dish, which Murray describes as “a sheep’s insides with all sorts of different cuts of meats, and there is some oatmeal in there, different spices”.

Juncheng was always going to have just “a little bit” and you will have to see for yourself what his views on Haggis are.

Murray also had to try Chinese century egg and green tea while Juncheng had a go at Irn Bru and Scottish tea cakes.

But the best insert came when Murray had to try Chinese Kung Pao chicken – a spicy, stir-fried Chinese dish made with chicken, peanuts, vegetables and chilli peppers.

Juncheng warned Murray that all will be well “as long as you don’t eat the pepper” as “you’re going to have to drink a lot of water that”.

Of course Murray was never going to listen to that warning, stating: “No chance they would have made them too bad, surely.”

And he was wrong, much to the amusement of Juncheng (and those watching the video), but you can see for yourself…

And Murray admitted afterwards “there was some proper spice there”, but “he liked it, it was very good”.

We are not sure if it was the cuisine swap that had an impact or something else, but both Murray and Juncheng went on to lose early at the Shanghai Masters last week.

Murray was stunned 6-3, 6-2 by Roman Safiullin in the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament last Wednesday and a day later Juncheng was beaten 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-4 by Yosuke Watanuki.
