WATCH: Unbelievable defensive Daniil Medvedev effort
Are you feeling sad that the weekend is almost over and wish you could stop Monday from arriving? Then check out this brilliant defensive effort from Daniil Medvedev against Taylor Fritz in the 2022 Western and Southern Open.
Fritz was laying the heat on Medvedev, having already won a set. The American looked to pummel the Russian star out of the match with some earth-shattering strikes. However, the World no. Four would not be so easily broken.
“The first set he was on top of me a little bit. He had many more chances than I did on my serve, but I managed to stay in. There were some set points where I could have missed and no one would have talked about it, it would have been normal. But I managed to stay in the set and that helped me win the match.” said Medvedev after defeating Fritz .
Medvedev certainly defined the term brick wall in this display, with some unbelievable shots that seemed almost impossible to make. However, the Russian star showed his commitment and hunger for the game by pushing himself to the very limit to seal the point.
The commentator certainly spoke for all by saying, “How has he won that point? How did he do it? Incredible. Medvedev has gone brick wall mode. He was way out of the shots, somehow dug that up, and he wins the point. He breaks serve, and he is fully in control now. How about that lob?”
“That’s a heartbreaker for Fritz,” added the commentator, because that point should have somehow gone his [Fritz] way, but Medvedev had other plans.
“He has been at his very best mentally today, Medvedev, and that’s why you see the reaction there from Gilles Cervara.” said the commentator. We can all agree that Medvedev could teach his coach [Cervara] a thing or two out on the court because that performance was out of this world.

The competitors embraced at the net, with Medvedev being the nice guy by saying, “Sorry for the first set, you deserved it. Sorry!” A remarkable display of sportsmanship from the Russian, who knew that his defensive effort was unreal.
Medvedev then went on to secure his spot in the semi-final after stretching past his American opponent to grab a score of 7-6 (7-1), 6-3. Unfortunately for the Russian star, he met Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in the following round, where he lost narrowly with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 3-6.
