2025 US Open mixed doubles strongest teams: Sinner-Navarro, Alcaraz-Raducanu, Zheng-Draper?

US Open organisers have confirmed the star-studded pairings for the new mixed doubles tournament, and we have assessed the high-profile partnerships.
In case you missed the announcement by the United States Tennis Association, they have decided to do away with the traditional doubles format, which usually runs in conjunction with the US Open singles tournaments with teams made up of players who usually ply their trade on the doubles circuit.
Instead, this year’s US Open mixed doubles event will take place the week before the singles tournament and will be played over two days with August 19 and 20 pencilled in as the dates not to be missed.
The championship will consist of best-of-three-set matches, with of up to four games. There will be no-ad in games when the score reaches deuce (40-all) so the winner of the next point wins the game.
Eight teams have earned direct entry into the tournament based on their combined singles ranking while eight teams will have received wildcards.
Those 16 teams have been confirmed and they are listed by their combined singles ranking based on the ATP and WTA Rankings on June 16:
Emma Navarro (9) and Jannik Sinner (1) – 10
Zheng Qinwen (4) and Jack Draper (6) – 10
Jessica Pegula (3) and Tommy Paul (8) – 11
Jasmine Paolini (5) and Lorenzo Musetti (7) – 12
Elena Rybakina (11) and Taylor Fritz (4) – 15
Mirra Andreeva (7) and Daniil Medvedev (11) – 18
Madison Keys (6) and Frances Tiafoe (13) – 19
Aryna Sabalenka (1) and Grigor Dimitrov (19) – 20
Iga Swiatek (8) and Casper Ruud (16) – 24
Paula Badosa (10) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (25) – 35
Emma Raducanu (36) and Carlos Alcaraz (2) – 38
Belinda Bencic (35) and Alexander Zverev (3) – 38
Olga Danilovic (37) and Novak Djokovic (5) – 42
Taylor Townsend (97) and Ben Shelton (10) – 107
Sara Errani (243) and Andrea Vavassori (336) – 579
Naomi Osaka (57) and Nick Kyrgios (unranked) – no combined ranking
So Sinner and Navarro have the highest combined ranking while there will be 10 singles Grand Slam winners in the draw with Sinner, Rybakina, Medvedev, Keys, Sabalenka, Swiatek, Raducanu, Alcaraz, Djokovic and Osaka featuring.
Sabalenka, Paolini, Townsend and Errani have won women’s doubles titles, Kyrgios has won a men’s doubles trophy and Vavassori and Errani won two mixed doubles titles and are the reigning US Opan champions.
Of course, anybody who partners with Djokovic will be the team with the most Grand Slams so Djokovic and fellow Serbian Danilovic (0) have 24 majors between them.
Next are Alcaraz and Raducanu as they have won six with the Spaniard a five-time Grand Slam winner while Raducanu won her only major at the 2021 US Open.
Alcaranu – as fans have dubbed them – are the only pairing where both are Grand Slam winners.

Swiatek and Ruud have five thanks to the Pole’s five majors while Osaka and Kyrgios are also on five as the WTA star has won four Grand Slam singles titles while the Australian has one men’s doubles title.
Sinner (3) and Navarro, and Errani (3) and Vavassori (2) – the Italians won two as a pair – are next with three while Townsend (2) and Shelton are on two, and Paolini (1) and Musetti; Keys (1) and Tiafoe; Rybakina (1) and Fritz; and Andreeva and Medvedev (1) have won one Grand Slam between them.
Although Sinner and Navarro have the highest combined ranking, the Alcaraz-Raducanu partnership has created the biggest buzz so far with the Spaniard confirming he asked the Brit to team up.
“I was thinking that I couldn’t play better if unless it was with Emma. I just asked Emma if she wants to play doubles with me. Yeah, I made that special request,” he revealed.
But reigning champions Errani and Vavassori will certainly be one of the most formidable pairings in the draw as they are the only “doubles specialists” team competing.
Swiatek and Ruud are likely to have good chemistry with the Pole a former US Open singles winner while Ruud finished runner-up to Alcaraz at Flushing Meadows in 2022.
And then there is the Osaka-Kyrgios partnership which should bring entertainment with the Australian known for his flair on court, although it remains to be seen if he will play as he has struggled with injury in recent years.
