Caroline Wozniacki and Petra Kvitova among early winners on day two

World No 2 Caroline Wozniacki brushed aside former US Open winner Sam Stosur in the first round at Flushing Meadows.
Reigning Australian Open champion Wozniacki secured a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win in under one hour and 30 minutes.

The Dane broke three times in the opening set, although Stosur managed to claim one break back, and twice in the second to secure the routine win.
Two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova steamrolled Yanina Wickmayer 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 12 minutes.
The fifth-seeded Kvitova broke twice in the opening set, but Wickmayer had the early advantage in the second as she broke in game four to take a 3-1 lead, but the Czech hit back with two breaks and then served it out.
Indian Wells Masters champion Naomi Osaka was also a comfortable winner as she beat Laura Siegemund 6-3, 6-2.

Former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko overcame a second-set slump to beat Andrea Petkovic 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Other players to advance in the morning session were Johanna Larsson from Sweden, American Taylor Townsend and China’s Yafan Wang.
