Change of first-round opponent for Emma Raducanu as Jennifer Brady pulls out of US Open

Great Britain's Emma Raducanu plays a shot

Emma Raducanu will no longer make her US Open main draw debut against Jennifer Brady after the Australian Open runner-up withdrew from the tournament.

British teenager Raducanu came through qualifying to book her spot in the first round at Flushing Meadows and was due to take on Brady on Tuesday, but the 14th-seeded American pulled out due to a foot injury.

Brady, who lost the 2021 Australian Open final against Naomi Osaka, retired through injury from her second-round match at the Cincinnati Masters a fortnight ago and has not recovered.

The 18-year-old Raducanu, who reached the round of 16 on her Wimbledon debut, will now take on lucky loser Stefanie Voegele, who is currently ranked No 128, in her opener.

The 31-year-old Swiss reached a career-high of No 42 in 2013 with her best performance at Flushing Meadows a second-round defeat in 2009.
