Gallery: The story from a dazzling day seven at the 2018 US Open
Here is our pictorial from day seven at the US Open, featuring defending champions Rafael Nadal and Sloane Stephens, and Serena Williams.
It was a tough day at the office for 2017 runner-up Kevin Anderson.

Dominic Thiem had all the answers to Anderson’s questions as he reached the quarter-final at Flushing Meadows for the first time.

Nikoloz Basilashvili also found life tough against top seed and defending champion Rafael Nadal.

Nadal was in control early on.

But Basilashvili somehow found an extra gear and took it to a fourth set.

The defending champion, though, held firm.

The eighth-seeded Karolina Pliskova was all smiles after she claimed a straightforward 6-4, 6-4 victory over Ashleigh Barty.

Serena Williams, leather jacket and all, prepares for her clash against Kaia Kanepi.

Kaia Kanepi fought back after a tough opening set but…
The 23-time Grand Slam winner was too good as she reached the quarter-final.

Milos Raonic had the early advantage against John Isner.

But American Isner bounced back to reach the quarters.

Next up for Isner is Juan Martin del Potro, who saw off Borna Coric.

Defending champion Sloane Stephens remains on course to win back-to-back titles after she beat Elise Mertens.
