How to watch the US Open women’s singles semi-finals

Iga Swiatek in action

The US Open women’s singles has come down to four women, among them the World No 1, a recent champion, a trailblazer and long-time top ten player chasing a huge breakthrough.

Of the four women only Iga Swiatek has a previous Grand Slam tournament win to her name.

The women’s semi-finals take centre stage on Friday evening after a day filled with doubles and juniors action.

The first of the US Open semi-finals will see Ons Jabeur of Tunisia’s take on Caroline Garcia of France.

Their match is scheduled to get underway at midnight BST for fans in the UK hoping to catch the action.

“We played semifinal I think in Roland Garros in juniors. … It was really rare to play someone doing so much drops hots, slicing in the backhand. She was really changing a lot the balls. It was really rare in the juniors. She was very tricky already to play. Now, she’s even more,” Garcia said.

“It’s fun to see two players again in semifinal in US Open. It’s a great challenge for my game, for me. I’m really looking forward to it. Try to do the best I can.”

Jabeur continues to be a trailblazer for Tunisian tennis and women in Africa.

“I was just trying to do my job and hopefully inspire more and more women from Africa. Really it means a lot to me,” said Jabeur.

In the second semi-final Swiatek takes on Aryna Sabalenka looking to extend a recent streak against the Belarussian.

She noted her wins over the highly-consistent Sabalenka but wouldn’t take victory for granted.

“Each of these matches was totally different,” Swiatek said. “In Doha … it was the first match where I realized I can actually play really solid against these top-10 players. Aryna was playing really good. It really gave me hope and motivation for the future. … For sure, I’m going to be working to keep my level of focus, determination the same way. We played each other couple of times, so we know each other. It’s going to be pretty similar situation.”
