Rafael Nadal on Novak Djokovic’s Calendar Grand Slam effort: ‘I definitely believe that he can do it’

Novak Djokovic has already achieved something “amazing” in 2021 and Rafael Nadal sees no reason why he can’t complete a Calendar Grand Slam by winning the US Open.

World No 1 Djokovic is looking to become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win all four majors in a calendar year and, having won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon, the US Open is the only trophy missing from the collection.

He will be looking to add that title at Flushing Meadows in September and Nadal believes he is the “clear favourite” to win the hard-court major.

Rafael Nadal on Novak Djokovic’s Olympics outburst: ‘It is important to avoid this, especially as a role model’

“He has already won three. So when you win three, you can win four, without a doubt,” the Spaniard said.

“He is 75% of the way. He is going to be playing on hard courts, probably his best surface. Why not?

“Of course, [it] is something difficult. [There are] going to be [other] guys that want to achieve the last Slam of the season.

“He’s one of the clear favourites, probably the most favourite player to achieve that.

“What he achieved this year is something, well, amazing. Let’s see. I don’t know. I definitely believe that he can do it, without a doubt.”
