US Open men’s final Carlos Alcaraz vs Casper Ruud: What time is the match and how to watch it

A delighted Casper Ruud

There is more than just the 2022 US Open trophy on the line when Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud square off in the final on Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York on Sunday.

Both players are also looking to take over from Daniil Medvedev at the top of the ATP Rankings, edging out Rafael Nadal after the 22-time Grand Slam winner lost in the fourth round against Frances Tiafoe.

If Alcaraz wins the final then he will become the youngest player to be No 1 and he will also be the seventh youngest Grand Slam champion at 19 years and 129 days.

The Spaniard booked his ticket to the showpiece match with yet another five-set marathon win as he beat Tiafoe in the semi-final.

“It’s amazing to be able to fight for big things,” the teenager said. “First time in the final of a Grand Slam. I can see the No 1 in the world, but at the same time it’s so far away. I have one more to go against a player who is unbelievable.

Ruud secured his place in the final with a four-set victory over Karen Khachanov and if the 23-year-old is the last man standing at Flushing Meadows then he will become Norway’s first major winner and No 1-ranked player.

“We’re playing for the tournament and also World No. 1,” Ruud said. “Of course, there will be nerves and we will both feel it.”
