Carlos Alcaraz will be the top seed for the third consecutive Grand Slam on the back of securing the world No 1 ranking ahead of the US Open.

The Spaniard wrapped up the big prize ahead of Novak Djokovic after reaching the Cincinnati Open final, but it was by the closest of margins after he finished runner-up to the Serbian.

Following Djokovic’s ATP Masters 1000 title in Ohio on Sunday, Alcaraz ended up pipping the 23-time Grand Slam winner by just 20 points to remain at No 1 the ATP Rankings.

With the cut-off date for the US Open seedings Monday August 21, it means Alcaraz was awarded the top seed for his title defence.

The 20-year-old was also top seed for the French Open and Wimbledon, and he went on to win the title at the All England Club. Incidentally, he was due to be top seed at the Australian Open as well, but withdrew from the tournament due to injury.

He is followed by two-time US Open champion Djokovic and 2021 winner Daniil Medvedev.

Holger Rune has achieved his highest-ever seeding for a Grand Slam as the Dane is currently ranked fourth with Casper Ruud, Jannik Sinner, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe completing the top 10.

The top 32 players in the ATP Rankings are seeded for the Grand Slams, although organisers can make changes but that rarely happens.

Fritz and Tiafoe are among five American men who will be seeded as Tommy Paul (14), Chris Eubanks (28) and Sebastian Korda (31) also make the list.

Eubanks is seeded for the first time in his career following his remarkable 2023 campaign that saw him start the year at No 123. He then won his maiden title at the Mallorca Championships before reaching the quarter-final at Wimbledon to surge up the rankings and now sits inside the top 30.

Only two British players are once again seeded with Cameron Norrie seeded 16th and Dan Evans 26th. Andy Murray missed the cut as he is at No 37 in the rankings.

With world No 22 Jan-Lennard Struff and world No 36 Denis Shapovalov withdrawing before the start of the tournament, it meant Korda and Laslo Djere were bumped into the top 32, although there could still be more withdrawals before the final Grand Slam of the year gets underway on August 28.
