Andy Murray and Serena Williams edge closer to dream mixed doubles team at Wimbledon

Andy Murray is “90 per cent sure” he will play in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon and has given a strong hint that Serena Williams will be his partner.

The two former world No 1s have in the past week both revealed that they are open to the possibility of teaming up at the All England Club.

“I mean, obviously she’s arguably the best player ever. She would be a pretty solid partner,” Murray said of Williams.

And when asked about playing with the Brit, Williams said: “I’m feeling better now, so I’m definitely available. I mean, we just have to wait and see. I like to be tongue-in-cheek.”

But it looks like it is going to become a reality with Murray, who will play alongside Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the men’s doubles, saying all will be revealed on Tuesday.

“I am definitely playing in the mixed. I have my partner — well 90 per cent sure,” he said. “Is it Serena? Possibly. I just need to confirm it.

“I want to make sure before I say anything. I don’t want to say anything and then it is not true. I will know for sure tomorrow [Tuesday].”
