World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz picked up a significant increase in Instagram followers after his Wimbledon triumph.

Alcaraz gained just over 700,000 new Instagram followers in a single day after winning Wimbledon in an epic final.

Prior to the final, Alcaraz had 2.8 million followers on Instagram, while as of the time of writing on Monday, 17 July, he now enjoys a following of 3.5 million.

What that means for the value of his social media presence is that Alcaraz now has an estimated earning potential of $42,600 per sponsored Instagram post, $21,300 per Instagram story and $55,300 per Instagram reel. (Earning estimates furnished by casinoalpha.com)

In total follower count, he remains some way behind Djokovic (13.3 million) and Rafael Nadal (19.2 million).

The victory ensured that Alcaraz remains the world No 1, and he has now put a little distance between himself and No 2 Novak Djokovic.

Alcaraz’s all-action brand of tennis and his never say die attitude continues to attract new fans, but is there any area he can improve on?

Former Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova felt there was very little wrong with Alcaraz’s game.

However, she felt that on grass, he could use the slice a bit more often to get some more variety into his game, advice she delivered to the Spaniard earlier in the fortnight at SW19.

“Well, I don’t think you need much (advice), ’cause you’re doing so amazingly well, winning winners from the baseline. I had to come to the net to hit the winners,” she said in a conversation with Alcaraz broadcast on the Tennis Channel.

“But I’d say use the slice more. Cause the ball stays low. Nobody really likes to see a slice coming at them. And you hit it really well. And come to the net more. Not because you need to, but because it’s so nice to see you there,” Navratilova added.

Alcaraz said that he employed the advice of the former winner to great effect, especially against Djokovic in the final.

“(The advice helped me) a lot,” Alcaraz said after the championship match.

“I saw her after I got out from the court. And I told her, ‘It was your advice! The key.’ I sliced. I tried to do everything she told me. I mean, nine times champion – You have to do whatever she tells you. And I think it was great,” he said.

Alcaraz seems to have begun a love affair with grass and Wimbledon that will see his star continue to rise for years to come.
