Wimbledon hopeful finds a word to describe Carlos Alcaraz’s stunning Grand Slam record

The magnitude of the success Carlos Alcaraz has engineered at the tender age of 22 has placed him among the game’s all-time greats, with Wimbledon hopeful Arthur Fery admitting the Grand Slams success achieved by the young Spaniard is ‘insane’.
British young gun Fery will play Australia’s No 20 seed Alexei Popyrin in a tough opening match at Wimbledon, after he was handed a wild card to enter the main draw at the All England Club.
Fery is almost a full year older than Alcaraz, as he will toast his 23rd birthday in July, with the career trajectory of Alcaraz giving the Brit some inspiration as he looks to shoot up the ATP Rankings with a breakthrough run at Wimbledon.
“Carlos is a year younger than me and it’s insane when he is doing,” Fery told Tennis365, at the launch of the ASICS GEL-CHALLENGER 15 and the London Collection.
“I went to college in America, so my path is a little different, but what he is doing at that age is just exceptional.

“He has a great team around him and that is always important. Then he has incredibvle talent and a great work ethic. He has been working so hard to get to this level.
“We are all working that hard, but when he has done at the age of 22 is just amazing.
“You look at someone like Roger Federer and he didn’t start winning Slams straight away, so Carlos is ahead of him. (Rafael) Nadal did start winning very early in his career, but what Alcaraz is doing now is amazing.
“The same with Jannik Sinner. He didn’t start winning Slams right away, but he has put it together over the last two years and there’s no doubt that those two are the best in the game right now.”
Fery has been battling injuries over the last year that have hampered his progress, but he has a rankings goal in mind as he prepares for his biggest tournament of the year.
“I’m playing good,” he added. “I’ve just been injured a lot, so it’s been tricky, but I’m confident in my level and I know that I can play very well, so yeah, it’s just trying to put my A game on the court and see what happens.
“Unless you are playing one of the guys in the top 20 or above, I don’t feel there is such a big leap. A lot of the guys playing in Challengers are playing well and then you have the added factor of playing on grass and not too many players are used to it, so it does give everyone a chance.
“I know my level’s there. I’ve just got to play a lot of matches and yeah, stay on court and play a lot of matches.
“I just want to play as well as I can and try and win some matches and it can be a massive boost to your ranking to do well at a Slam.
“I guess my first target is to be in the top 100, that’s the kind of that’s the starting goal, but I’m I mean I’m sure that there would always be something better to do and I would never really feel I feel like I’m at the end of the road. But yeah, I mean, yeah, trying to stay healthy is the first thing for me.”
