Carlos Alcaraz’s pre- and post-Wimbledon schedule confirmed
Carlos Alcaraz enjoyed a brief vacation in Ibiza following the French Open, but he is set to step up his Wimbledon preparations next week with his full schedule for the next few weeks now confirmed.
The reigning US Open champion lost in the semi-final at Roland Garros as he went down in four sets against eventual winner Novak Djokovic with the Serbian not only regaining the world No 1 ranking, but also going on to a win a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam to move one ahead of Rafael Nadal.
Aclaraz admitted after the last-four defeat that nerves got the better of him and contributed to his cramping during the final two sets while his doctor also revealed a few days later that he sustained a wrist injury during the defeat.
The world No 2 gave his wrist some time to heal as he opted to take break from tennis after the tournament as he took a short vacation and was seen in Ibiza with Real Madrid footballers Sergio Reguilon and Lucas Vazque this week.
However, he has already returned to training in his home city of Murcia and will travel to London on Saturday for the grass-court season.
He will kick off his campaign at the Queen’s Club Championship next week as he will make his debut at the ATP 500 event. Alcaraz, who will be the top seed when the draw is made over the weekend, was due to play last year but withdrew because of injury.
A title win at Queen’s Club will see Alcaraz return to No 1 in the ATP Rankings.
The 20-year-old is also expected to compete in one or two exhibition matches at the Tennis Classic at Hurlingham from June 27 to July 1 and will be joined by the likes of Casper Ruud, Holger Rune and Karen Khachanov at the event.
His focus will then turn to Wimbledon with the grass-court Grand Slam getting underway on Monday July 3.
Alcaraz was seeded fourth last year and reached the fourth round before going down in four sets against Jannik Sinner while he exited in the second round during his 2021 debut.
Should he reach the latter stages at Wimbledon then there will be no rest for the Spaniard after the tournament as he is set to fly straight to Nice for the Hopman Cup where he will represent his country alongside Paula Badosa.
