Fun was had by all at SerAndy debut, now Andy Murray and Serena Williams want to improve

It was a match for the ages as Andy Murray and Serena Williams made their mixed doubles debut at Wimbledon, but they believe they do better now that the first-time nerves are out of the way.

Team #SerAndy made their debut on Centre Court on Saturday and they started with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Germany’s Andreas Mies and Chile’s Alexa Guarachi.

There were good moments, bad moments and hilarious moments, the latter courtesy of a Williams slip in the first set.

“I just remember I slipped, then I was going to get back up. I saw a ball coming towards me, so I just kind of went back down,” said Williams.

“Then I couldn’t get back up after that.”

“Did you see the video?” Murray asked.

Williams replied: “Yeah. It was hilarious. I decided to just stay down and let Andy do all the running.”

The American admitted after the match that she would have preferred to be watching the match instead of playing it due to all the hype.

“At some point I started feeling a lot of pressure,” the 23-time Grand Slam singles winner said. “Oh, my God, I have to do well because this match is so hyped that I want to see it.

“I didn’t even want to be in it, I kind of just wanted to watch it. Maybe I’ll try to get a video of it or watch it somewhere.

They certainly had too much quality for Mies and Guarachi, but at the same they are the first to admit that they could play better as they wasted several break points.

“We created lots of chances in the first set, but maybe weren’t as clinical as maybe we’d like to be,” Murray said. “That comes with matches a little bit. Neither of us have played much recently, but that will come.”

Williams added: “We have a lot we want to get better on as a team. I think we did great for the first day. We just want to keep it up.”
