World No 1 Novak Djokovic has added Goran Ivanisevic to his coaching set-up ahead of the defence of his Wimbledon title.

Ivanisevic, who won the title at SW19 as wildcard back in 2001, revealed early on Sunday that 15-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic asked him to team up for this year’s event.

The Croatian will work alongside Marian Vajda, but he admits the call came out of the blue telling sportklub: “A bit of a sudden call came a few days ago. I was a little surprised.

“I travelled to Sweden. Nole wanted me to come earlier, but I had a senior tour event agreed. I came here this morning for the first training.

“Unfortunately, it seems that I will be able to be there only in the first week because I have obligations again. I’m trying to postpone them, although there are so many things.

“However, when Novak Djokovic is calling you – you put a lot of things on the side.”

Djokovic later confirmed on social media that it was a done deal not only for Wimbledon, but “future” events as well.

“I am grateful to have Goran on my side of the net. We have agreed to collaborate at Wimbledon and hopefully many more in the future,” the Serb wrote.

“I am thankful to Marian for supporting the idea to invite Goran and strengthen our team ahead of this important tournament.”
