John McEnroe predicts problems for Roger Federer against big-hitters

John McEnroe has warned that Roger Federer could face a “miserable” run if he is to reach the final at Wimbledon.

The 59-year-old predicts that the Swiss will struggle against the big-servers, like John Isner and Kevin Anderson, who are still standing in the tournament.

Federer has cruised through to the quarter-final stage without dropping a set and is the favourite to triumph again at SW19, but McEnroe wouldn’t be surprised to see the 20-time Grand Slam champion knocked out before the final.

“You’ve got 6-foot-8 Kevin Anderson and 6-foot-10 John Isner,” said the American.

“Now, you go in and say obviously Roger’s the favourite and obviously Roger is playing incredible but those are three guys that can take the racquet out of your hand and they’re going to make life somewhat miserable, I believe.

“One of those guys is going to cause some damage.”

First up for Federer is the South African number eight seed Anderson, with either Isner or Milos Raonic awaiting in the semi-final.
