Serena Williams and Julia Goerges survive scares to set up Wimbledon semi-final date
Serena Williams came from behind to beat Camila Giorgi and move into her 11th Wimbledon semi-final.
The 36-year-old lost the first set – the first she has ever dropped against the Italian – but roared back to claim a 3-6 6-3 6-4 win.
“I knew after the first set, ‘all right, let’s go three sets’. I’ll just keep fighting,” Williams said.
“I’m ok, I feel good, I feel like I did better today, I had to.
“This is only my fourth tournament back so I don’t feel pressure, I don’t feel I have to win this.
“I still have a long way to go to be where I was.”
Williams will play Julia Goerges in the last four after the German ended Kiki Bertens’ giant-killing run in SW19.
The 13th seed, like Williams, had to come from a set down but utilised her big serve to secure a 3-6 7-5 6-1 win and set up a Thursday date with Serena.
