Who wants to play mixed doubles with Andy Murray at Wimbledon? Everyone except Ashleigh Barty
Andy Murray could still be on double doubles duty at Wimbledon as he is eager to enter the mixed doubles, but he has revealed that he has been rejected by Ashleigh Barty.
Former world No 1 Murray is easing his way back into competitive tennis in the doubles as he made his comeback after a six-month injury layoff at Queen’s Club on Thursday.
He partnered Feliciano Lopez and they pulled off a stunning upset as they beat top seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Murray has since confirmed he will play alongside Pierre-Hugues Herbert at Wimbledon, but has revealed he is eager to have a go in the mixed doubles as well.
However, newly-crowned French Open champion Barty won’t be his partner.
“I would like to play mixed doubles at Wimbledon next month and I have spoken to a couple of players about partnering up,” he wrote in a BBC column. “But I’ve been rejected a couple of times so far – in the nicest possible way, of course!
“One of those people was Ash Barty. I asked her during the French Open and she said no because she is already playing in singles and doubles, so didn’t want to play in three competitions. Of course, I understood that.
“It is a shame we can’t play together because I want the best partner possible. I’m sure I will find another great partner, providing I feel good enough to play the men’s and mixed doubles.”
However, several past and present WTA Tour players have put their hands up.
Maria Sharapova’s resume is already in.

Why play with your brother when you can team up with Andy Murray?
@andy_murray I would totally ditch my own flesh and blood AKA @Liambroady to play with you #SORRYBRO #LOVEYOU 😬
